Huneebee Project

Huneebee Project is a New Haven-based non-profit social enterprise with two core missions, to promote environmental conservation in disinvested neighborhoods and equitable job preparedness for our youth employees.

OUR MISSION: A WORLD IN WHICH OUR YOUTH, THE COMMUNITY, AND OUR ENVIRONMENT ARE IN A MUTUAL AND COLLABORATIVE RELATIONSHIP.

This is made possible through a social enterprise that promotes transferable job-skill-building for youth, community engagement, and shared appreciation for our natural environment. Huneebee Project was started in 2018 by a clinical social worker and beekeeper. Since then, we’ve graduated 5 cohorts from our 15-week Beekeepers in Residence therapeutic job skills training program, installed 30 honey bee colonies in New Haven’s community gardens, planted 11 pollinator plots, and employ graduates in positions, including junior garden site managers, bee apprentices, and peer instructors.

OUR VISION:

Huneebee Project trains and employs youth in New Haven in beekeeping and the creative arts. We prioritize training and employing youth with past or present child protective and/or foster care involvement, because we know that, all too often, the child protective and foster care systems are under-resourced and can come with varying gaps in service. We hope to see:

1) Teens and young adults who are future-oriented and can identify and feel confident in their unique interests and skills.

2) A community that feels empowered and engaged in our youths’ development and in being champions for environmental conservation.

3) A shared recognition of connection to nature as necessary, therapeutic, and one that can be achieved in your own kitchen or backyard.

$.50 per every bowl of ramen sold during the month of August will be donated directly towards the installation of beehives in under-resourced neighborhoods and community gardens, and employment of local youth. To learn more, please visit, www.huneebeeproject.com
