LiveGirl

Founded in 2014, LiveGirl, Inc. is a Connecticut-based nonprofit that builds confident, inclusive leaders though free-of-charge, year-round leadership development and mentoring, grades 5 through college, in person & online. Our organizational lens is centered on the needs and experiences of ALL girls, especially girls of color. Our leadership approach is skill-based, anti-racist, healing-centered, and gender inclusive.

THE CAUSE: GIRLS’ CONFIDENCE PLUMMETS DURING PUBERTY AND NEVER RECOVERS.

The pandemic has heightened the mental health crisis among girls. Racism and sexism permeate career readiness, including networking, hiring, and promotion. Women are underrepresented in government, business, tech sector, and all positions of power.

OUR MISSION: TO PREPARE THE NEXT GENERATION OF DIVERSE, BRAVE FEMALE LEADERS WITH THE SKILLS, COMMUNITY, AND CONNECTIONS SO THAT THEY MAY THRIVE AND MAKE A POSITIVE IMPACT ON THE WORLD.

We’ve served over 12,000 young women to date (grade 5 through college, 68% young women of color) in our innovative, evidence-based leadership development and mentoring programs. Our organizational lens and solutions-making are centered on girls of color. Our free-of-charge programs range from our middle school Confidence Clubs, creating a safe space for girls at a crucial developmental stage in their lives, to She Works, our career-readiness and internship program for college-aged women. From preteen to young adult, we equip young women with the skills, mentors, role models, and experiences necessary to thrive and gain social mobility. In 2021, we were featured in The NY Times and named a top ten nonprofit innovating to serve its community during the pandemic.

OUR VISION: TO CONTRIBUTE TO A WORLD FREE FROM BOTH GENDER AND RACIAL INEQUALITY.

We work towards this goal though our evidence-based programming proven to build self-esteem and social emotional intelligence, the building blocks of a confident leader. We also provide girls with authentic opportunities to build bridges to people whose lives are different from their own, the key to becoming an inclusive leader. We advocate loudly on behalf of all girls and drive policies and practices that open doors and ensure equality.
