Sunflower Mission

Sunflower Mission is a 501(c)(3) organization that provides educational opportunities for underprivileged students in Vietnam and develops the leadership potential of youth in the U.S.

THE MISSION:

EXPANDING EDUCATION, FULFILLING DREAMS

Sunflower Mission is committed to improving the lives of people in Vietnam through educational assistance programs. They are a non-governmental, non-religious, and non-political organization that supports students based on academic potential and financial need.

THE OPERATIONAL PILLARS:

  1. SCHOLARSHIPS: Sunflower Mission currently supports three scholarship programs. In total, they have awarded more than 27,644 scholarships to grade school and college/university students. 809 of their scholarship recipients have graduated from college with degrees in medicine, engineering, education, finance, and more.

  2. WORK CAMP: Sunflower Mission’s annual Work Camp provides its supporters the opportunity to see, hear, and experience their work firsthand. The Work Camp group travels together to Vietnam to assist with light construction, lead English and Lego Robotics workshops, and engage with scholarship recipients.

  3. CLASSROOMS: Sunflower Mission has built 200 classrooms, renovated 18 classrooms, and implemented a maintenance program overseeing all 66 schools built throughout Vietnam. They built their first school in 2003 in partnership with YMCA International in Ben Tre province. Their 67th school is currently being constructed in An Giang province.

  4. SERVICE: Launched in 2018, English Initiative (EI) was designed to help Sunflower Mission’s college scholarship recipients in Vietnam improve their English skills, which are increasingly important in today’s professional world. US-based Mentors and Vietnam-based Mentees have weekly conversations via video chat about everyday topics: future careers, hobbies, daily lives, etc. In 2026, Sunflower Mission will expand the “Big Brother — Big Sister” program to enable others to serve.
